Front Sprocket

Hey guys. I gotta change my sprockets and chain on my bike, but I can't get the front undone. I've tried with a few differnet sockets but don't work.
Any help please.
By the way it's an 05 ZX10.

You will need a single hex key (so not to strip it) and an 800pound gorrilla.

alternatively you will need an air/electric rattle gun

I tried with the 27 mm socket but couldn't get it. I'll try during the week some time.

dont use a 27mm multi hex socket. you'll for sure strip the nut.

As above use a single hexagonal 27mm socket. If you use a breaker bar make sure it's the length of your garage

Find someone with a compressor and a rattle gun you can borrow, it'll be off in seconds. Or spend some hard earned at Supercheap on a small compressor and a cheap multi tool kit. I use mine heaps; sprockets, grips, tyres, spray painting, old car wheel nuts etc. I've had it years and it's never let me down.

Ok so i'll have to go buy this 27 hex socket. Got a compressor, but might have to take it to my mates work to to do then.

Good luck mate. These things are fitted at the factory by a robot !! no shit - and the bastard does them up tight !!

You need a 6' length of water pipe as the breaker bar, a piece of 4 x 2 hardwood through the back wheel to stop the wheel rotating, 2 mates to hold the bike so it doesn't fall over, and another mate pushing the socket onto the sprocket-nut so it doesn't slide off !

I tried a both a air-powered rattle-gun AND an electric rattle-gun on Mel's ZX6 last year, it was a total WOFTAM. The only thing that got the nut loose, was the blue chisel ( oxy ) - applied twice in the dealer workshop no less. This was the only way we could get that nut off her bike.

I got the nut off just a few months ago. Had to get a mate to help out. breaker bar didnt work, nor did the rattle gun. the boys are right about the socket though. make sure you have a bar between the wheel and the swingarm with some rags. you could leave it gear but I think it might do some damage. It was a definite bastrad to get off though.

I had to take mine to a truck mechanic as even my dealer couldn't get it off with there rattle gun, 3 goes later with this rattle gun the size of a bazooka and she was loose.

Might have to try there truck rattle gun other wise maybe the oxy.

If you do go with the oxy - use it wisely. *Don't* light up the nut until it glows red ! This will just fuck the output shaft seal that sits behind the sprocket.

Use it * a bit*.....then *a bit* more......you want to get just enough heat into the nut to help get it off.....

Put a broom handle through the rear wheel as not to put undo stress on the trannie gears or have somebody hold the rear brake on. The trans is not made to handle the torque or impact of an air gun. With Jim Beam the gods will smile at you, (or maybe laugh).
