Red key Myth

Tue May 04, 2010 9:58 pm

Just clearing up that eternal Kawasaki Myth. YOU CAN get black keys copied from another black key. ;)

Granted only specialist locksmiths can do this but, it is possible.

I only had 1 black key for the new race bike but now I have 3 :kuda:

$165 each including key, cutting and recoding.

Got any pointers for anyone who is in the same unfortunate position?

cool, how do you go about it if you loose one of the black keys, dont you need the red key to change the keys over?
or are the codes in all your black keys the same, so to your ecu all you keys are the one???

Doing it the "correct" way you would have a set of available "slots" in the ecu for a fixed number of key codes (i think it's 12 or so). If you get another key added you utilise another "slot" within the ecu. Once you fill it up you have to clear out the old slots and start adding in keys again.

Doing it this way your merely recoding a new key to replicate the code in an existing key that you have and you don't have to worryt about availability of slots within the ecu..

correct.

your simply coding a blank to be mirror image of the original. All works fine

No tips. Just try and find a locksmith that has the expensive software that can code the duplicate ;)

What I should say is that if needed I have contact details for a locksmith that can do this obviously.
