Chain cleaning?

Sat Jul 18, 2009 8:01 am

So sunday will be zed cleaning day, my chain and sprocket are quite gunky from chain lube. Is the degreaser in the spraycans ok to use? Will it destroy the o rings in the chain? I thought it wouldnt but wanted to double check before I do anything and have to buy a new chain. I know petrol is a no go, or is it? Any other good ways of cleaning them?

Kero. I only know from asking the same question, and yes apparently degreaser is bad for o-rings. :D

Awesome, cheers for the quick reply, did you dilute the kero or straight from the bottle? Maybe I should search this topic haha, its too early to function...

Kero straight up, no need to dilute :kuda:

I always use WD40 or equivalent and a toothbrush.
Spray blows most of the shit off too, saving you scrubbing time :kuda:

Kero, paint brush, leave to dry and relube.

I tend to Kero the chain, wash the bike, let it all dry then relube. WD40 is very good at removing lube splatter, simply spray WD40 onto a cloth and wipe the lube splatter off. Great for under seat areas, rims, chain guards, huggers and under seat exhausts.
