What happens to a bike when it gets submerged? Too much?

Just playing with the idea of working on a bike and bringing another one back to life.

95% WON'T happen, BUT...... doesn't hurt to think and talk about it.

It would be a monster 620.

(I know I know, but I've got my reasons, and a Kwaka's planned for me once on my fulls. (or before If I can jag a Ninja 250; might suck to go back from a 500 to a 250 tho))

No idea of damage or condition, will go and find out soon once I'm armed with a bit more knowledge.

Wondering what to look for?

Potential BIG problems?

Internal corrosion etc?

Sounds like a good plan Tim, but submerged how much and in what kind of liquid? sea water or normal water?

Tim this one could be a problem .... if the water got in the engine through the exhaust & possibly carbs it could be a big fix some of the bikes going to MD have been sitting around a while & if this one was sittimng around there could be serious concerns about corrosion. I would keep looking .....hey the other one is dry.... I think

Both the same apparently, partially submerged in fresh water.

Yeah, potential for A LOT of issues.

go see if it starts i thought these were fuel injected

Fair call RR but the main factors to consider are ;

>How long submerged?
>purchase $$$$$$$$$$
>How old / farked pre swim?
>How mechanically clued up you are / how much bribery required for your newly re aquainted very best mate (who happens to be a bike spanner man)

Things to consider regarding potential resurection;
>was it running when it was dunked? ie did it hydraulic lock ? if so prob not worth it
>How far submerged ? ie will it need forks / shock stripped and rebuilt? $$$$$
>It WILL need wheel bearings and headstem bearings replaced plus a full strip down , clean up and re lubing all cantilever/dogbone / shock / swingarm bearings etc etc .

Main problem if it has been submerged completely will be electrics.

New ecu =$$$$$$$$$$$$$
New dash =$$$$$$$$$$$$

They're the main ones that will hurt the budget the most.
