What to do if your bike has overheated?

Hi guys, Ive got a track bike in the garage which if I havent used recently will run for a few minutes every second weekend...

Anyways, last weekend I was busy doing something else and got so used to the sound of it running (I usually let it get up to 95 degrees before switching it off again) that I completely forgot to switch it off....

Anyways to cut a short story long, I suddenly realised that I had left the bike on.... Ran in, it was at 132 degrees, steam was pissing out all over the place.

What is my recommended action to make sure the bike doesnt suffer any long term effects? Do I just fill up the radiator and keep going or do I need to do a full lube job?

I'd say just refill the coolant to start with and check it out to make sure nothing else has gone amiss. If it keeps getting hot and you know the radiator is fine, check the thermastat is working and there are no air locks in the cooling system.

I'm making the assumption the head gasket is ok by the way. No water in oil or oil in water etc

Failing that use a big hammer Or just trade it in on a Kawasaki

put the fan back on it, and make sure the thermostat is good. no way it should get that hot. even idling still. uless its air cooled. which i kinda doubt seeings you talking about refilling the coolant

On a hot day mine will hit 117 waiting at lights, no cars in front. dont know if it go higher because i turned it off the first time and the light went green the second time. Doing 60k in 6th the rest of the way home... chug chug chug.

shouldnt get that hot jason... highest ive seen on mine is about 106...

my coolant needs a bit of a top up but the cold weather is helping me out for a while!!!

Yeah, mine used to only hit 106, then it was 110, then it was 115 and red light time then 117. only on the hottest days tho

With the old air cool bikes, when they got too hot, we just used to piss on them. Perhaps this is suitable treatment for the spewie too?

I agree, Actually that should be done to all suzuki's every thousand km or so

It was sitting in the garage without any airflow, for bloomin ages.... I dont think the thermostat is broken because it really did seem very hot, 132 would surprise with me... the fan was running full boar just wasnt getting enough air to cool it down I think...
