zx9 e removing front sprocket cover

thought id attempt to clean my chain and sprocket after slow n woobley maintenace day
but couldnt quite get the front sprocket cover off

4 bolts and i thought it would just come off - wrong
tried to lever it ever so slighty still nothing
nearly got a hAMMER OUT then i did the bugger back up and left for next time :twisted:

what am i missing here it cant be this difficult

Are they Philips head? if yes you would need an impact driver to break the thread lock without ruining the head ;)

Undo the fasteners from the cover - 10mm bolts.
The gunk that builds up behind the cover is what holds it together. From the opposite side of the bike use a long screw driver or piece of dowel and gently tap the cover off. If it doesn't want to move check that there is nothing else holding it. Obviously don't use excessive force. Try also by spraying, wiping WD or kero around the outer edge of the cover and leave for a few minutes to soften the gunk.

yeah there was some movement and i tried the screwdriver although it seemed to be catching or holding at the top ,
but i just didnt want to get to carried away unless it turned to shite any how i have another go

and off course i can now see my chain and sprocket after a little bit of a clean :)

From memory there's also a locating pin in the cover - these can be a bit of a bitch to get out and generally need to come straight out (i.e. levering it from one side wont work real well).
