Speedo just stopped / Clutch problem

Sun Dec 21, 2008 6:02 pm

2 questions i need to ask

I was riding down the ringroad the other day, and out of no where the speedo went from 100 to 0
Im a a fairly new bike rider, and i would have no idea why this would happen or how it happened, i havent been doing anything out of the ordinary
Im thinking of taking it to a shop to have a look at, but if it is something simple i might try and tackle it myself

My other problem is my clutch (i think) today i was riding with a few of my mates, i opened up the throttle (while riding and while i was sitting at the lights) abit but the bike wouldnt go anywhere! The bike slowly started to move but really didnt go anywhere and it was reving off its head!
I was like WTF!

ok, well your speedo problem sounds like a pretty simple one and that is Speed Cable is busted. I had a ZXR250A and same hting happened, was doing 60 down the road then next moment 0!

Solution: If you check the cable, so look behind hte speedo there should be a cable that is screwed into the back of the display, follow that down to the front wheel. Unscrew both end, once you have it off, have a play around with hte cable, the inner part should be able to spin as 1 unit, so if you spin wiht your fingers 1 end, the other should do the same. If its not doing that or the cable falls out as 2 or more peices. There that problem.

With your bike not engaging into gear or being a "clutch" issue, where you viewing the N light on the dash as being off, as if the clutch was engaged ? but the bike wouldnt take off ? Perhaps you didnt "fully" engage 1st gear so although the N light had gone down the gear wasnt correctly set.

Solution: Press gear lever down harder!
