quick tyre question...

Wed Nov 12, 2008 3:30 pm

hey guys, i know tyre threads get done to death... so im not going ask broad sweeping questions...

have narrowed my choice for new tyres down to dunlop roadsmarts or sportec M3s...

i know the M3 will be good for the track, and from what ive read of posts by strika and mal the roadsmarts get more mileage but would they be ok for trackdays??

thats all.. simple question...

they both come within $10 of each other at a smidge over 500 bux () and the M3s are the cheaper of the two...

just a quick shout out to chris at northside motorcycles... he took me upstairs and ran me through all the tyres... very helpful, BT016s look good but are almost 600 bux...

the guy at procycles printed me out 4 quotes but said definitely dont go for dunlops... anywho i think i will be going to northside...

and as a side note... both places said continentals are as rare as hens teeth... so that ruled road attacks out of the equation....

It depends on how fast you plan on going I guess, but if Marty's getting around on them then I'd suggest they're pretty fair for most mere mortals. The M3's are certainly good though and you'll get a stack of mileage out of them on the 600. I would've thought they'd be a bit cheaper too

Have you though about Pilot Road 2CT's. The Hoff likes them on the barge, I know Gos has run them as well. I've got the Power 2CT's on at the moment and they're pretty good

hey glen... im hoping to break 2 mins on the 6... did 2:08 on the old ninja 250 so around 2 minutes or under should be about on pace...

had thought about pilot power 2CTs ($584 is out of price range tho) and turns out they have soft and supersoft compounds...

can anyshed some light on how much the road 2ct's cost???

Rennsports... $360 a pair fitted from Craig White..

Ask Wattie about em..

Good for the track... probly not so good for the road, but who cares about the road.. ;)

The Dunlops work good on the ER-6 ; but it's not punching out the power of the ZX6r. :(

My bike came stock with BT016's, I'm happy with them so far 8)

ron my six only has 80kW, nothing like the modern guys up around 100kW....

thanks fred ;) ... the 16s are way outta my price range.. i just asked if the roadsmarts would hold up on the track...

If Craig white sells 16's you might get a good deal.

Nice :)

Power 2CT's were $525 fitted at SPM when i did mine. If your going for under 2 mins then I'd probably go for something stickier then Roadsmarts. Not sure about the compounds on the Power 2CT's. My understanding was that they are a Power compound in he middle and 20% softer on the sides. I'd give them a go.

northside guy said he got 3000kms out of the power 2Ct's... i would want more mileage than that.. then again i probably dont ride as hard... but northside sell both michelin, metzeler, dunlop and bridgestone.. and the guy said flatly dont get power 2CTs.... he recommended the M3s... which is where im leaning...

You'll get heaps more than that. My previous Powers were good for 6,000klms on the 10 and these things are just stickier on the sides. He probably just can't get them.

You won't be disappointed with the M3's though

Can't answer your question, but I will say I absoloutely loved the M3's on the six.
Wish I could remember the mileage I got with them. 10k - 15k km's for the rear I think it was.

I have gotten 10k out of my pilots powers b4..... If you ride fast and smooth you can alot out of them

I have some second hand pilot powers off my 10 you can have for $150 It's had 1 track day and probaly bout 1k road use... only thing is it a 190 rear

ER-6 is only 50 kw - I've done PI via Phils squirrel road & return ; EC trackie ; several PITS ; and a rally. They have hardly worn in the centre and there is still a ton of tread on the edges  , but I might remove that on the 13 Dec. :D

I've also done a reasonable amount of km's in the wet and they are very sure-footed. Modest power output would have a lot to do with that, though.
