ZX10 chain life

Fri Aug 15, 2008 12:50 pm

Just wondering what Ks other 10 owners are getting out of a chain. Mine has 13000km and is definately ready for changing (ie adjusted it Sunday, rode it Wednesday and it needs adjusting again

30.000 km is my average. Avoid clutch wheelies and keep the chain clean.

I've never clutch wheelied, only done a few power mono's and generally ride really smooth - like 9000km out of a Dunlop Qualifier rear kinda smooth. Chain gets lubed every 500-700km or so, depends on the ride/weather etc.

Always got about 30-40,000 km out of a chain on the CBR, so thought 13,000 was a bit shit.

Yeah I would've though thats pretty short. Mines got 18,000 on it and I reckon it'll be good for 30k. I'm pretty anal about keeping it clean though.

From memory I got around 24,000 out of mine with the Afam alloy rear sprocket and 16t front.

is it possible you checked your chain tension at the "tight spot"?
i.e did you check your tension in several places as there will be a spot in your chain thats tighter then the rest.
just a thought,,
cheers Tim

I normally get approx 25K out of mine, but I've seen a chain kill itself in 2K over a weekend of riding in a hard driving rain.
