and I have no idea on the bolt distances on the bike, but surley I could make up a plate to take the 78mm distance if required?

As long as the original is the same distance or more. If it's less then you wont fit it into the cast cutout section of the frame

Hmmm just rang my G/F to check the ZZR and it's 50mm bolt centers on one side and about 55mm on the other!

Well, short of milling the frame (Not recommended) theres not a lot that can be done. You could make a bracket that mounts them slightly back from where they are now and have it in line with the frame edge maybe?

piece of piss - just knock up an adapter plate out of 8mm ali plate. It only needs to be about 20-30mm wide, with correct bolt spacing of 50-55mm between front bolts, and 78mm at the rear. It will *not* be a rectangular shape, more like a trapezoid.

You can then customise the position of the rearset footpegs to be *exactly* where you want them to be. All you need is a cardboard template of the basic pattern, a sheet of 8mm ali plate ( check your local ali supplier, they may have pieces in the 'crap' bin you can get cheap), and a jigsaw with a metal blade. You may need to make up a couple of sets to get the peg positioning perfect, but its real easy to do.

AussieNinja had a set of 'footpeg hangers' on his old ZX6, basically they just moved the standard pegs back and up about 20mm each way. Exactly the same concept.
