race bike prep catch trays?????????

ok guys rule 15.3.1.8 from MOMS says this:


With the exception of Period 1-5 Historic
machines, and production-based
machines without a lower fairing which
have ADR compliance, all machines,
including sidecars, must be fitted with
an integral lower fairing dam or separate
catch tray, which must be constructed to
trap and hold engine oil and / or coolant:
a) For 4-strokes machines, a capacity
of at least 3 litres,
b) For 2-stroke machines, a capacity of
at least 2.5 litres,
c) With no less than 2 holes, each of
25mm, which may only be opened in
wet race conditions.


how have u guys gotton past this one??

You cant get past it you can either fabricate a catch tray or incorporate it as part of the fairing.
That or go naked!

lolz tempting but i really like the side fairings there pretty hot n i spent alot of time with painting and stickers on it lolz so i would like to use them do u reckon some 1mm aluminum plate fabricated to sit in the belly pan would be acceptible???

As long as it covers the specs that would be fine & they are not that hard to whip up, we run one in the P5 SC even though we dont have to, we dont want to get blamed for oil on the track.

true true ahhh i am preparing this bike to race (obviously) lolz so far i have done

lockwired oil sump
oil filler
radiator drain
radiator filler
brake caliper bolts
brake banjo bolts

my oil catch tank is in my sealed airbox which i have fitted a drain to
i have a stock radiator overflow bottle so is there any need for an overflow from my overflow??
and do i need to have a fuel overflow? only place for it to do this is out of the breather so do i need to divert that to a small bottle of so me sort?
is there anything else u can think of?

Is it possible to close up (glass over) any holes in the bellypan to make it hold the necessary volume of oil / coolant? Our trackys have an enclosed bellypan that holds this capacity (but no drains for wet weather). The alternative is a fabricated tray that fits under the sump as Rob suggested. I don't think going naked would be allowed, as your bike is a production based machine that wasn't ADRed with no lower fairing - I could be wrong but that's my interpretation of the rule.

Its actually easier than that.. Get a baking tray from woolies and zip tie it into your belly pan..

theres no holes in the belly only the join of the two sides and i would need to glass a rear so when i move it doesnt throw the crap out the back lolz so yer it probably would hold 3 litres i think? might give that a go it will be the light weight solution ay?? can u think of anything else i need for it to be able to race from lookin at my list above? cheers

the more i read MOMS artice the more it gets stupid lolz so what stopping me from modifying the bolts so they have big heads protruding 20mm from the engine lolz its pretty vauge on details starting to consider canning the whole race thing n just doin track days on mah 250! lolz

those carbon fibre covers are useless might as well not have them they will not protect your engine case in a down side if im goin to do this i will do it right im goin to make spacers and get longer bolts and weld 10mm plate

oh its quite vague on details wats stoppng me on using liquid metal and building it up 20mm over my engine case
