Thoughts on this!!

Sun Oct 07, 2007 8:26 pm

I went for a ride on the old road today and my front felt like absolute shit moving all around the place scared me a little cause i wasnt pushing. I checked my tire pressure last week and it was on the low side and ever since inflating it it has been feeling worse i have posted this on another forum yes i know pls dont burn me. but im just after some ideas. the tyres are bt014's and i run 32 psi. the tyre looks shagged wat are your thoughts???

Mate, the tire looks fine to me.

What about the way it looks, makes you think its shagged ?

Its may be something between your pressures and the temps.

make sure the tires are warmed up, the old road can get very slippery early in the mornings so be careful.

take care

Nah, it's alright dude. If you want to see a shagged bt14 have a look at the OEM Suzuki ones that Wattie destroyed.

Were they from the Ulysses club ? :D
the tearing on your tire is very minimal and absolutely normal, you can give it loads more

Remember that when you suddenly up your pressures and your not used to them the tires will feel very different.

that tyre looks fine mate,

as soundguy said, the ol' road can be slippery when you got cold tyres,

especially that rough chip rocky shit, that destroys knee sliders

heres the 014 on my Z1000 after riding down the princes hwy to batemans bay.

not many bendies down there...

I was up there today, didn't see you, will have to catch up next time your up there..

On the tyre issue, 32 psi is way too low for the road, I would recommend 35 or 36 front and back minimum when cold..

Suspension can also play a part in the way your tyres feel, if you dont have enough rebound on, your tyres can feel flat and sloppy, especially the rear.

Best you come up for tea and scones on Sunday in 2 weeks so we can have a sticky beek ;)

So Hoffy, it's you who's been giving Valentino his tyre advice this year hey!!!

On a 12, 35 or 36 psi in the front might be just perfect, however, on a ten or a 6 32-34 is plenty!

Now, as to the comment about rebound! It's too much rebound which makes the tyres feel flat and dead. Not enough will make them feel light and bouncy! Ozten, don't let this guy touch your suspension unless going slower is on your agenda!!!

well, maybe you can offer some advice from your cozy fucking corner of infinite superiority and self praise..

32 psi pfft !! The standard Manufacturer recommendations for the various sports bike tyre pressures is around 38 - 41 psi !!

HYFTU - Harden your fucken tyres up !!

and what a ridiculous recommendation that is.... i once put 40psi in the back of the cbr...ggeeeeeZUS did it feel like i was riding on a rock... only time id run that much psi is on a boring long highway trip .... i ussually run 32F-36R max...if im going to try and go quick- 30-34... on the track -26-28 ..and if im intending to do decent wheelies- 28 in the rear....

suspension set up can make wonders to how a bike feels..as can square tyres (the pic looked a lil square to me??) ..and a cold road makes em squirm a little too...

1st thing i'd do is get the susp set up (does ne1 do a freebie service over there?) ...then go from there....

30 - 32 psi is too low for the road, no matter what you ride..it will also tear your tyres up quicker. End Of.

Mate, what is it with people named Mick! FFS, it's Hams for suspension and Hoffman for tyre pressures now!!!  Just for the record, I run 36 psi in the front of the 240kg flying Marshmallow and 42 in the rear. This gives good grip and tyre life. In the 9 I run 34/38, for similiar reasons. On my 636, I ran 30 front and 32 rear for 002's and 32-34f and 34-36 rear for 014's!! So it can vary greatly on the type of riding, the style and weight of bike and of course the differing carcass constructions of the variety of tyre manufacturers. I know from memory that 014's on a 636 work best at 34 psi front and 36 rear! This gives good grip with good mileage. Once again, if I loaded it up with a top box panniers and a tail bag, plus a tank bag and the equivelent of Hoffy's weight as a rider, then....I might be tempted to run your recommended 425psi front and rear!

Just bear in mind, that not all bikes have to endure the burden of an oversize load placard on every ride!!!!!! ;)
