Winter vs Summer tyre pressures. do they change?

Fri May 25, 2007 3:54 pm

Im off to the track tmw and am wondering about tyre pressures now its cold outside.

normally i run my pilot powers at 30psi front and rear.
if i have them higher than that i find the rear feels "squirmy".

all of my track days on this bike with these tyres have been in summer so i have no idea how these tyres will behave on a cold track.

Should i alter my tyre pressures now its colder out?

i think i might experiment a little but thought i would see what other peoples experiences have been.

You can drop maybe one or 2 more psi at the most as the track surface will be cooler but I wouldn't go anymore than that.

Just make sure there warm before going hard...

Tyre warmers are very handy on cold days...

Good Luck......

tyre warmers would be great but i would feel like a bit of a knob using them when i dont really ride hard enough to warrant them. I guess its probably safer though...

thanks for the advice dave.

good call

i could of used tyre warmers yesterday.
track felt like and ice rink for the first and last sessions cause of the cold.

next time im going put some good sticky tyres on the bike and maybe lend some warmers to see if it makes an improvement to my times.
