New tyres for belle

Mon May 21, 2007 3:38 pm

Well, the pilots died in glory, shredded to pieces on the Alpine Way

For the next set im thinking-

Shinko (Yokohama) Ultrasoft F003RR - Front

Michelin HPX Rear

190 rear you think or go the 200....

Thoughts?

I reckon stick with the 190 mate. Hoffy's got one on his and it steers pretty well.

You thought about the Metzelers. M3 rear, Racetech front. I can't get the stupid discounts from galvins anymore but I've got M3's on the 10 and the bastards seem to last pretty well.

Forget the hpx mitchy lucky to get 5000 out of it on my 9,verses 8000 on m3s :D

I keep hearing conflicting stories about the new metzellers....

I dunno anymore, Ill never use a set of dunlops, DEATH TO THE D207!....Or bridgestones, I love the MeZRace we used to use on our 9's glen, but, a 12 aint no 9....

as for the longevity....carefactor 0%, im lucky if i get 4000 out of a tyre most of the time.

Right now, im leaning towards Pilot Race and HPX rear... or maybe Pilot Power rear and pilot race front....

but i think ill have a problem with Race front and normal rear in terms of differential grip rates

Decisions Decisions..

And for the record, im running a 190 rear atm and a 65 profile front (70 stock) to quicken turning in,

so whatever I do get, it cant compromise the turn in rates, If it makes em faster, yippee!, but i wont tolerate slower

a shinko will not perform like the m3, full stop, period. from my experience that grip and last.

we had jeff ware from rapid mag on the show today, they have got over 5000 out of the rear m3 on the project gsx14, a big heavy bike with lots of torque and 140 odd rwhp. the way jeff rides i'm sure you will get at least that from your 12.

:P the MFP12 will be wearing an M3 on the rear shortly, I will let you know how it goes....

Shadow - mate, the new Qualifer 208 rears are a *great* tyre on the 12 - I just nailed over 8k from late Feb till now, yes its down to the canvas, but I am a firm believer in value for money

They work great on a 12, very sticky, I have not had 1 single unexpected slide or tyre-induced *moment* when running Qualies on the back.....

And the 002 bridgie race compound is definitely worth using on a track day. They let me get down to footpegs on both sides, and still gave great feedback at these angles..........I wouldn't use them on the street though, wear out far too quickly....

Gos my utter hatred for Dunlop will prevent me from ever taking them seriously....I cant even begin to demonstrate how much i hate em, they are the ones who foisted off the D207 on an unsuspecting world and should be made to bleed from the testicles for having done so

Im honestly not comfortable with the shinko route, so think ill go the Pilot race front HPX rear for now, Nice solid known quantity, once people have had the metzellers on ill re evaluate

havent the testamonials given so far been enough to convince you  the hpx wont give the grip/feedback of the M3.....if you ride as hard as you imply i'd be going for the best tyre I could get, and IMHO thats the M3. I doubt many people here would ride as hard or harder than marty (strika) - he likes them but with the new touring rig can afford to run the racetech's on the 9, i need the best grip i can get with longevity, thats the M3

....and I've gone the middle route and have a racetec K2 on the front and an M3 on the rear and am pretty impressed with them...although I don't go quite as hard as some
