Good place for Service

Mon Feb 26, 2007 2:56 pm

Allo All,

It is about time for the GPX to have it's first service (Since I've had it), it has around 5700km on the clock. Tis an 05 model.

I live in Reservoir, and the ones nearby are:

Clipstone Yamaha on Bell St
Redwing Honda on Bell St

Can anyone suggest a good place to have it done?

Also - if this needs to be moved to a different thread pls do so instead of deleting it

Hi Scott,

I've been looking around myself, used to use Don's in Epping - till they stripped the sump plug.

Now looking at taking it to Discount Motorcycle Wreckers - http://www.dropbears.com/d/dmw/index.htm
They're on Dawson St in Coburg.
They specialise in BMW & Jap.

The Guys there seem ok - but can't really tell you what they're works like.

Bloody hell. The spec is 20 Nm. You need a lot more than that to strip it.

How do you know what sort of bike StarDrifter has?

The topic was about servicing a GPX and I got that in my head. At the time I didn't notice that I had made a silly assumption.
But the point still stands that you're tightening it way more than necessary if it's stripping. You're not bolting stressed pieces together, it's just a low pressure plug. A bloody mechanic should know better. I'd expect that from a handy man that's never dealt with aluminium.

Bikes A ZZR250 So I would assume those specs would be fairly much the same.

I bought it at Floyd Parkes AKA 1300 Kawasaki in Ferntree Gully, so it is a bit of a hike from where I live (Reservoir). Worst comes to worst I could go there, just seems an awful long way when there are bound to be some good places closer to home.

oh geez.......
FP Ferntree Gully don't have a good rep either generally in Melb
for servicing

so maybe...its gotta be Clipstone

give 'em a go
and maybe have a chat to the service guys when you book it
in...quiz 'em a bit and see if they are generally sympathetic
to all bikes..not just Yammys

I am happy enough to change oil/fluids myself, but not quite savvy enough if anything else was needed.

Inline Motrcycles in Newport have a VERY good rep for servicing Kwakas.

Ahhh, my sis lives in Newport so might be an option. And I tell a lie, the name of the Yamaha shop on Bell is Stafford, not Clipstone.

Clipstone are in Ringwood, no idea what their srvice record is like but their sales prices are ludicrously dear (IMO).
