Poor idle

Tue Dec 05, 2006 6:54 pm

After finishing up the great wash of '06, I noticed I've made 2 ooopsies. 1 was routing the clutch cable wrong, but that was a quick fix. The other is a little more serious.

Appears I have buggered the idle.

Symptons:
1. Sounds a little flat at idle.
2. At first ran at around 500rpm and needed the idle screw wound in a fair bit, this hadn't been moved during the wash.
3. Dies when trying to take off gently on the clutch off the line. "Seems" like its fouling the plugs for a second while the clutch is still slipping, then just as its about to grab it clears the plugs and breaks free of the clutch friction and revs.

I haven't noticed any other problems anywhere else in the rev range, or for anything other than tiny throttle openings. Giving it a big panic rev before taking off keeps the plugs clean and it will launch hard fine. It was much worse today in the high ambient temps.

The carbs are balanced and a bottle of spitfire has so far done nothing. I didn't separate them during the wash but they were off the bike for a couple of weeks. While washing them they were upside down, etc, and all fuel drained out of them and they were dry for the few weeks. There doesn't appear to be any vacuum leaks that I can see at first look and all hoses are correctly routed *crosses fingers*.

Oh wise ones, please guide me as to where to begin the diagnosis process......

Idle screw moved? Crap in the float needle?

Pollution gear and ram air hoses is my first guess. You had all the fairings off yeah??? If these are the syptoms then yes.

Runs on three down low and idle, wouldn't pull your brother off your sister till it hits 8K. then there is a little vaccuum hose that connect at the front to the ram air pods! You may have forgotten to reconnect it. let me know if that fixes it! If not, come over I'm home and can look at it! :)
