Db Baffles - From the "I'll be Fugged" File.

Sat Oct 07, 2006 10:12 am

Well I'll be fuggered & So on.

Big Kev took his new 10r (Gumby) into Lae for the 1500ks Dyno & custom Mappage. Custom Zorst & A Commander system.

When he got his custom Stubby Zorst made they tossed a little removable end baffle in just to take a couple of decibells off the noise.

Had it dynoed with the baffle in 151hp baffle out 163hp.

Alex then remapped it for the baffle being removed & finally ended up with 164.9hp.

Those that know Alex know his dyno is pretty realistic so thats a pretty impressive number.

Anyway i thought the zorst tipbaffle would make a difference but @8% thats huge.

My Staintune has the same effect. Seems to work by pushing some of the gas into the side baffles and making it go right back down the can and back up again. Adds a lot of back pressure, and a very noticable difference.

Not had mine on the dyno, but can feel the top end difference with the bung out and the mid range thickens up with it in.

A mate at the creek last Sunday had his Akrapovic equipped and Mapped 10 there. It has been totalled at 164 also on a conservative Dyno. It was gobsmacking how much quicker it was than my 9!! Coming out of 12, I had a much better line and would pull away by 10 bike lengths out of the turn, but then his 10 would wind up into the top end and literally dissapear  By the 100m braking marker, his bike would have at least 200m on mine  I was just shocked at how much faster they are!

Considering that the '06 mounts its twin catalytic converters in the collector as opposied to the mouth of the muffler on the '04-'05, which makes the exhaust markedly less efficient, and that it runs smaller valves, which should harm cylinder filling at high rpm, the fact that the current 10 beats the precedong bike at all in the top end is, frankly, jaw-dropping.

Five years ago, Formula Xtreme bikes needed a generous dyno to lay down 165hp, and they'd do it while returning a tank range of 120km. Now, a stock run-in bike from a shop does the same thing. That's insane.

it's insane in a good-insane kind of way
