screw and little pop rivits with thread in them?

Sat Jun 10, 2006 3:31 pm

Hi I got a new left fairing made up for my 7 and it's painted and all ready to go back on except I need the three little thread sections that go into the fairing where the left fairing connects to the front fairing with te three screws. I pulled the old one's out of the old fairing and it looks like there's 2 sections to these just like a pop rivit but with thread inside. Does anyone know where I can get these from?

I think they are called "rivnuts". Some of the tool places should have them, maybe?

You could try 5mm nutserts. But you need the tool to fit em.

yeah you can find it in the same isle as the left-handed spanners

Yep rivnuts ....... used them at the place i use to work before i left the motor trade
try your local bolt guy

if i still worked there i could have sent you some but i dont .. so bad luck
and Vince some tools do come left handed now

think it would be easier just to convert lefties to righties
hehehhehe

I'm in the motor trade now and have never seen them before do you just use a rivit gun like normal rivits?

Kinda the same process but you need the special hand tool, the nutsert screws on the end of the tool (jokes to come I am sure) and insert and squeeze like a pop rivet gun, unscrew and withdraw tool, easypeasy.

Just go for "well nuts"
Rubber sleeve with a nut in them.
They do the same job, and your dealer should have them.
They were originally in the frame of my 12 to bolt the front of the "tank" cover to. But I have them in a number of spots now where vibration would crack a "solid" mount.

I've got a nutsert gun and inserts. If you want to bring them down we can fit them no probs. Let me know if your keen.
Paul.
