HELP: ZZR-250 won't start

Postby Saradiel » Sat Dec 22, 2012 2:38 pm

Hi guys, I'm a newbie to riding and I have stumbled upon this site to find someone who can help me with my problem.

I have a Kawasaki ZZR-250 that was running well when I got it, but not long after I had an issue with this bike after taking it on a longer ride.

As I was riding I noticed that the bike had lost a lot of power but it was still revving high and loud. Eventually I came to a red light and the bike came to a stop, the engine just lost idle and died. Note: There was fuel in the tank.

It took a lot to get it started, a lot of choke and ignition. But I did and rode home with the weird symptoms from before.

I parked it in the garage and returned to find that a lot of fuel had just dropped underneath the bike, all over the floor.

Now the bike will not start, I got it started a few times but it will just die out after a few seconds, and the throttle still has a "lack of power" feeling.

Could it be flooding? Or is my suspicion correct, the carburetors need a clean?

I'm a student and I would just like to fix this myself before spending money. Also if there's anyone who can come check it out I'd be able to return the favour with some free photography and a bottle of Green Label haha, weird mix.

Let me know what you guys think it is! Thanks.

check the fuel lines....
might be cracked or split.
its starving for fuel from what you are saying, although, very hard to tell without looking at it
take off the tank and see...easy job and no cost!!

your battery is fucked. Buy a new one.

Hey gosling you got shares in exide?? Why the hell would you blame the battery. To diagnose a problem you need to ask lot's of Questions don't they show collumbo in the A.C.T. read2.gif

no they stopped showing Colombo here about 20 years ago, which pretty much explains why you are still watching it in WA in 2013

Why the hell would I blame the battery ? Because in my 42 years of riding experience and 30 years of working on motorcycles in my own workshop - the battery is the first thing that needs to be replaced when faced with symptoms like the ones described by the OP.

How many times do you think this exact same question has come up on the 15 different bike forums that I whore out on, over the last 10 years ??? Do you think that maybe the same problem gets the same diagnosis every time - because its the same ? It's not like I really need to ask a lot of questions at all for most of the usual problems that punters post about - because the same problems were getting the same questions last year, and the year before that - and even the year before that ! How about that ?? Incredible but true.

But heh, enough of the logical help. How about you keep trolling my posts so that I may remain amused at your likeness to this bloke :kuda:
