Performance Tyres

Postby kempy » Sun Oct 30, 2011 8:28 am

Hi all,

Have been out of the scene for awhile and currently hunting down a new bike.

What are the leading performance tyres out there at the moment? I used to ride around on Bridgestone BT012ss (if I remember rightly that's what they were called!). Looking for tyres of similar character.

Cheers.

I like Power Pures as a good road / track. I'm a track noob but I found them confidence inspiring. Only problem is they only seem to last 2 track days but I spose that's more the ZX12's tyre shredding torque. They also get up to temp very quick.

Of course very happy with the road performance also and road wear is very good / long lasting considering.

They bandy about the LTT (Light Tyre Technology) term with these tyres, and I can say yep it's true... noticeable loss of rotating mass.

Times change. Today a Michelin Pilot Road 2 or 3, will give you more grip, better steering and handling as well as lasting 4 times as long as a BT012ss.

Not exactly sure, I'm looking for the current day versions of the BT012ss I used to ride on, so whatever that is.

think bt016 is the bridgestone sport tyre.
but the dual compound tyres (bt023, roadsmart, sportsmart are the ones I know) are still sticky on the sides but harder in the centre so you get better tyre life.
