temperature light?

Postby dilligaf » Fri Nov 19, 2010 11:13 pm

The ER6 doesn't have a temperature gauge but a light that comes on when its too hot. Mine is coming on but basically flashing. Mainly happens when I roll off or brake. But not every time. Doesn't seem to be related to the fan. Its been in a bike shop and they couldn't make it come on. Fan works normally. No ECU messages (but it doesn't have a memory). No coolant overflow. Got them to replace the temperature sensor but that hasn't helped. Coolant levels are good. Oil level is good. At a loss what to do next. Do autoelectricians do motorbikes?

I would guess the most impotant thing is to varify it is only an electrical problem and not really over heating. A permanent or temporary gauge is in order. Once that problem has been solved the you can choose to either fix or ignore your idiot light. Don't eat yellow snow. :kuda:

got the gauge on and its all doing what it should. temp is nowhere near the 115 thats supposed to turn the light on.
fan comes on at 103 and thats as hot as she gets. light comes on as low as 94.
see what I can make of the electrics :(

Sounds like a wiring problem. Most bikes temp light is activated by a ground from the temp sensor, so an exposed wire, (insulation worn through) touching a ground would activate the light. :kuda:
