CCT Question....

Postby Disco » Sat Sep 11, 2010 8:53 pm

On the advice of somebody more technically minded than me I changed the CCT on the one of the bike's today.Took the old one out and didn't look much different to the new one as to wear on the teeth and was clicking into place at what seemed the same pressure as the new one....The spring on the ratchet locking bit was a bit "skew wiff" to the new one but was still engaging fine...But the new one made a HUGE difference to the sound on start up and general running of the bike....I know for a fact that this is at least the 3rd CCT for this bike (has @ 7k on the clock) is this the norm with sport's bike's?....I have read up about manual CCT's are these the go at $150+ a pop they are a pretty expensive consumable :?

Once was warranty (kawasaki dealer said their was an issue) and second was under advice from a another mechanic (3,000k's in between).....

My real question is,is a manual CCT just easier they are available so maybe the next time might be an option....

3 CCT's in 7k ??? thats bizarre. CCT's should last a shitload longer than that.....I doubt that the one on the MFP12 will get changed before I hit 100,000km, and it gets a fair old pizzling most of the time.....

The manual tensioners are a set-n-forget arrangement, and should not need replacing at all. You would only need to change the cam-chain when required....

manual ctensioners are good, but dont overtighten. when its quiet, its too tight. kwaks are always bit noisy.

My 636 has been getting a bit noisy on start up & considering the valves were just done I might get the CCT checked :?
Only one I have done before was on a Z1RMk11

I replaced a camchain and the spring on the GSX recently for good measure and it made a world of difference to the clatter i heard. I knew when it went in place that it was significantly improved as i didn't hear the firm "thock" of the plunger depressing quite a fair way to tighten the chain like the old one. All the buzzing and rattling went away immediately. This is a 250 and has done 57kkm, and unless this engine was abused, it was its first Cam chain and ensioner spring replacement in that entire time.

3 cct in 7k, that is wrong, very very very very very wrong. I would seriously look into the quality of the oils being used, or at least make sure there's no other damage to the top end (valves and cams specifically) as well as doublecheck that the oil pump wasn't farked.

I don't think it's anything that drastic mike  ....Look's like it was just a locking spring failure (was noisy only on start up)....Will post a pick later tonight when I get home.... :kuda:

You could quite possibly be right, but two failing in under 7k, very very abnormal.

a CCT is only something that is needed if you run your tyre pressure below 34psi cold, can lap EC in under 1'55", and get your fairing wings on the deck up the Old Road.....

I just thought he'd spelt CDT incorrectly  :(

Then again my mouth started watering at the mere thought of a parmy and some moussaka
