Col, the Country Lawyer, ran across an old client outside of the Shepparton Court, an aboriginal lady who was beaming from ear to ear.
She was carrying a sheet of corrugated iron under one arm & a slab of Fosters under the other.

G'day Mary, says Col, what are you looking so happy about today ?

Just been to da fambly court, Col and look, I got half the house and half the contents !!

Apparently....Col the country lawyer, also noticed that Mary was only wearing one thong. He asked if she had lost one, which she replied..."No, I found one!" ;)

And Cath, next you'll be telling us we can't make irish, kiwi, chinese, muslim, or any other marginalised minority group jokes!!! It is humour FFS....Like the aussie jokes about male forplay! You know...."You Awake" and all that lot!!!

And anyway...what the hell are you doing out of the kitchen at this time of day??? Shouldn't you be preparing a hearty home cooked meal for your man??? Ironing his work shirt for tommorrow and preparing his nightly massage while he watches the sports channel???? :?

Interesting subject this one isn't it...?

I had a chat with someone the other day about this after the Muslim jokes.
I usually only remove posts if there is a complaint.

Being a pom, I cop a lot of stereotypical pom jokes, of which I have no problem as do most of us, but it does make me question where the line is for other races, if there is one.

I think the biggest concern is more for the site being sued (ends up me), attacked or whatever for allowing what some may see as racial vilification.?

Perhaps another thread should be started to discuss this and get ppls thoughts...

(I'm not ignoring your post MadKaw, I just wanted to address the bit aimed at me. I may or may not chime in if a thread to discuss the issue is posted)

Mate, I have no idea how you got "telling people what jokes they can or can't make" from " " :? Seriously, you're either projecting, reading stuff into it or been hitting the crack pipe too often lately

This isn't the first time people have responded to my posting a roll-eyes, as if I was ranting and raving, throwing a tantrum, mightily offended, in a huff, or calling for censorship, but it's kinda baffling. It's just a roll-eyes, people! When I rant, rave, throw a tantrum or am in a huff, you'll know it and it won't be a cryptic smiley, it will be a full-on childish meltdown  As far as what people should and shouldn't be allowed to post - that is up to MadKaw, not me (though like everyone, I do have an opinion on what I think a good "tone" for the forum would be). And as far as being offended goes - well it might depend on your definition of offended, but I'm pretty sure nobody on the forum has ever seen/heard/read me being offended!

So, here's a public service announcement to the smiley-illiterate: It's just a frigging roll-eyes. I'm rolling my eyeballs. I'm not huffy, offended, chucking a tanty or want someone silenced. I'M JUST (wait for it) ROLLING MY EYEBALLS!!! Like I do in person when I read/hear something that I think is stupid, idiotic, pathetic, contemptous, intentionally ignorant, etc.

Sheesh. Can't a girl roll her eyeballs without everyone thinking she's throwing a hissy fit??? Lighten up guys!

Pics or it didnt happen 8)
My take on this is what can and cant be said in public over the years has become way to politically correct ,a joke is a joke and if some people get offended then it is clear to me they have no sence of humour or are just to touchy. In regards to whats right or not on this forum is as stated totally up to the powers to be.   :P ;) Oh and i am not flashing my boobs

Where "the line" is, is such a personal thing!

I think "considering AFTER complaints" (of which I've never made any ;) ) with common sense applied, is a reasonable and fair way to judge where the line is.

Sometimes people can be overly sensitive or acting how they "think" they should without real offence, and need to be told to HTFU

...and sometimes we don't understand the sensitivity and profound offence that can be caused by what can be seen as a flippant comment, and that should be respected, after all what's LOST if a simple joke is removed or an apology made.

Didn't notice the Muslim jokes were taken down 'till now or know about a problem with them, but they're a perfect example.

For example....

Most muslims wouldn't mind jokes about say.... muslims not being good with money, or having long beards etc etc
Generally taking the piss or funny stereotypes they might tell them amongst their friends.... or have a chuckle when they hear it.... but,.....

make a crude/offensive joke about The Prophet and they could be deeply offended, their faith telling them it's their responsibility to do something about it, to make it known that it's not right..... and no one could convince them to change their mind.

To a non-muslim there's no difference, but to a muslim there's a HUGE difference.

But..... other people can't be expected to know this, but if they're made aware of it, they can be judged by their reaction and action to the offence caused.

Surely if it was just because the jokes were about a particular group, then every other joke making fun of a particular group (including this one) should also be taken down?

If so that wouldn't really reflect our "aussie" sense of humour, nor how we like to take the piss now and then and not take things too seriously.

But, if there was sincere offence in the jokes for someone, then that's different.

Point in case, one in a million, but imagine it was true.

Imagine one of our members was aboriginal, her parents divorced beacuse her father was abusive and her mum had a drug addiction. After the divorce she had to live on the streets and support her alcoholic drug addict mother until she died 6 months later.

NOW, she complains about the joke above, the joke is taken down with an apology, done ,fine.

ORR, She complains and is told to HTFU all boongs are the same, ouch.

It's not the insensitivity BEFORE a complaint that matters, it's insensitivity AFTER one which causes problems.

Catholics have been wearing jokes about Jesus Christ falling off the cross for years. They can get over it. So should the Muslims. All this crap about 'The Prophet' being above a joke, is a joke.

Its no different for the Buddhists, or any other religion that has a figurehead. Its just that the Muslims seem to take it to heart, if the joke is about the Prophet. They need to lighten up.
