The Kawasaki Racing Team returned to Phillip Island in a confident mood after a successful foray at the picturesque circuit during the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix weekend.

Here’s what Senior Teams Co-ordinator Scott Breedin had to say about this event, the last round of the Australian Superbike Championships.

“Since our team only recently finished competing in the Australian round of the MotoGP series, we only had limited set-up work to do. We are quite confident that the current direction both our Supersport and Superbike machines are heading in would give us a set of base settings to enable us to be on the money from the first practice right through to the last lap of the last race.

“This confidence proved to be correct for Jamie on his Ninja ZX-10R as he immediately set about getting up to speed and qualifying on the front row. Unfortunately Josh on the 600 experienced some small problems with his machines fuel management system that hampered his practice time and unfortunately he just missed out on a front row start by the smallest of margins. All continued to go smoothly for Jamie as the first race started, he got a great start and quickly moved to the front of the field to produce another impressive victory in front of a very competitive field.

“Jamie’s second race started in a similar fashion and he quickly moved through to the lead once again but unfortunately was unable to maintain this position to the end of the race suffering some traction problems coming off the faster turns at Phillip Island, which resulted in him finishing a very impressive second. Jamie achieved 2nd overall on the day and 3rd overall for the championship, which is a good result given the competitive nature of the Superbike Championship this season.

“In the first Supersport race Josh produced a good start from the second row to get away with the leaders, but, unfortunately was held up behind one of the Honda riders on the opening few laps allowing the front runners to get away by a small distance. When he finally got past Adam Ferguson, Josh tried his best to bridge the gap to the leaders which he managed to do slightly but unfortunately there were not enough laps remaining for him to complete the task and he ended up finishing the race in a creditable third place finish.

“Race two for Josh was very similar to the first – unfortunately he was held up slightly from the beginning and although he was able to match the lap times of the leading trio, he once again could not quite bridge the gap that was created earlier in the race. Josh finished race two in 4th position for 3rd overall on the day and a creditable 4th in the championship.

“We’re lucky in retaining Josh for season 2006, however, unfortunately for us at the KRT, Jamie has decided to move into 2006 with another team. Although we regret loosing Jamie and wish him luck, we are more than confident that we will hit the ground running in 2006 with both our Superbike and Supersport riders fully up to speed before the first race of 2006 begins. The Kawasaki Racing Team’s plans for 2006 are bigger and better than ever, we’re keeping our fantastic sponsors for the year and we’re really looking forward to using our new ZX-10R in the Australian Superbike Championship next year.”
