Our old mate, Chris Seatons race report from Brno

Brno lived up to the expectations. A beautiful, long circuit; very wide, undulating, flowing, and a lot of beautiful girls, my kind of circuit. Unfortunately I had to concentrate on the first few things i mentioned. Friday things were made hard for me to settle into the circuit in the first practice. Due to the new surface and lack of rubber on the circuit, the tires of all competitors took a beating and were only good for fast laps i've never seen tires destroy so fast. With many of the riders testing Brno the week before the race it was very important for me to learn the circuit and get up to speed as quick as possible so i could work on bike set up. As i said the tires were destroyed after 9 laps and i did my fastest lap on lap 3 of my first time on the circuit! not only that but my 8th and 9th laps were a whole 2 seconds slower, so I hadn’t come away with much information from that practice besides learning the circuit.
It was amazing the difference the rubber layed down in the first half of the day made to the life of our tires. I dropped 6 seconds a lap and the rear tire looked new and the front a lot better than then the mornings. I managed to qualify in 10th which put me on the 3rd row. i was happy with this but a lot frustrated because as I got faster the bike revealed more set up problems. This is normal.
Race day came and i was ready. i got a good start which has become normal for me aboard the suzuki 1000, i was 7th into the first corner and 7th is where i stayed, having a very lonely race. i dropped off the lead group but pushed for consistant lap times so i wouldnt get swollowed up by the big freight train behind me. i pulled a 6 second gap on the bunch behind me and it was 4 seconds to the next in front of me. Despite the lonely race i was happy with my 7th position and very happy with my consistant lap time which isnt easy when not in a battle or a chase. Having had the problems in qualifying we decided to make a few small changes which definately improved the bike handling but still we could have done more, but i bet all riders say the same thing.
So a short break of hard training and it’s off to the UK for the next round this weekend at Brands Hatch. Can’t wait.
Thanks everyone
