Our old mate, Chris Seatons race report from Brno

Postby MadKaw » Fri Aug 01, 2008 2:14 pm

Brno lived up to the expectations. A beautiful, long circuit; very wide, undulating, flowing, and a lot of beautiful girls, my kind of circuit. Unfortunately I had to concentrate on the first few things i mentioned. Friday things were made hard for me to settle into the circuit in the first practice. Due to the new surface and lack of rubber on the circuit, the tires of all competitors took a beating and were only good for fast laps i've never seen tires destroy so fast. With many of the riders testing Brno the week before the race it was very important for me to learn the circuit and get up to speed as quick as possible so i could work on bike set up. As i said the tires were destroyed after 9 laps and i did my fastest lap on lap 3 of my first time on the circuit! not only that but my 8th and 9th laps were a whole 2 seconds slower, so I hadn’t come away with much information from that practice besides learning the circuit.
It was amazing the difference the rubber layed down in the first half of the day made to the life of our tires. I dropped 6 seconds a lap and the rear tire looked new and the front a lot better than then the mornings. I managed to qualify in 10th which put me on the 3rd row. i was happy with this but a lot frustrated because as I got faster the bike revealed more set up problems. This is normal.
Race day came and i was ready. i got a good start which has become normal for me aboard the suzuki 1000, i was 7th into the first corner and 7th is where i stayed, having a very lonely race. i dropped off the lead group but pushed for consistant lap times so i wouldnt get swollowed up by the big freight train behind me. i pulled a 6 second gap on the bunch behind me and it was 4 seconds to the next in front of me. Despite the lonely race i was happy with my 7th position and very happy with my consistant lap time which isnt easy when not in a battle or a chase. Having had the problems in qualifying we decided to make a few small changes which definately improved the bike handling but still we could have done more, but i bet all riders say the same thing.

So a short break of hard training and it’s off to the UK for the next round this weekend at Brands Hatch. Can’t wait.

Thanks everyone
Chris Seaton

It appears he is running out of funds..
If anyone would like help, please read below...

To all the past sponsors, friends and supporters of Chris Seaton during his racing in Australia.

Some of you have mentioned in the past that if we get into trouble to let you know, it’s a difficult thing to do but here goes.

I reluctantly, am biting the bullet and writing this email to all Chris' past sponsors, friends and supporters to put you in the picture of where Chris is at this present time, in his first year on the international circuit, and to let you know he needs some financial support to finish this season, which is just past the half way mark.

Sponsorship is hard to obtain, even though Albury/Wodonga has had its share of high profile motorsport identities, and the support we have had for Chris over the years has mainly been from friends and people with an interest for Chris to succeed, to whom we are extremely grateful on his behalf for the support shown.

You cannot ride overseas without putting money in for the ride, we have now reached the stage as a family we are at the bottom of the well, and we need some help.
Chris is at present sitting in 11th position on the World Superstock Cup ladder, after some spectacular crashes and extremely hard times is still as determined and as focused as ever. Living over there sounds like a glamorous life, but I can assure you it is nothing like that with the language barrier and life in general, it has just been Chris' grit and determination that has seen him stay and see it out the best he can.

Thankfully, Chris now lives with a terrific family, who look after him really well, as the job with the team got quiet and they didn't need him, so fortunately his accommodation is taken care of.

This is the last year Chris will need any financial support as plans are underway at present for next year, which is very exciting but is under wraps at this stage.

This weekend Chris races at Brands Hatch, UK and his instalment to the team is due now to enable him to continue the remainder of the season.

This is a humble, yet hard ask, but if there is anyway you are able to contribute, something...........anything towards helping Chris, or know of anyone, it would be greatly appreciated, and will enable him to continue his journey.

Chris turns 24 today, 31st July; it would be fantastic to take the pressure off him knowing his ride is secure for the remainder of the season, and I am sure he would be aiming for a podium as a birthday present.

Sincerely
Elayne Seaton
