Nakano determined to forget nightmare crash

Last year at Mugello, Shinya Nakano crashed out of the Italian GP at 200 mph after experiencing tyre failure on the thirteenth lap. Although the Japanese rider – currently seventh in the Championship standings – is wary of the return to the Italian circuit, he is confident he can achieve a good result this time around.

“I think when I go to Mugello, perhaps it [last year’s crash] will be on my mind during the first day and first practice sessions; but I will just try to concentrate on achieving good results,” said the Kawasaki rider, who had made a stunning comeback just a week after his heavy crash, taking 7th at the following round in Catalunya.

“I think the home straight is very long and you reach a really high speed. Sure, I think that maybe for the first few laps I’ll feel a little bit scared. I left China feeling disappointed, but Le Mans was not so bad and I’m more confident now.”

“I think we are more consistent this year. Last year we had some difficulties at certain tracks,” added Nakano. “This year the bike is more stable and is managing more- consistent lap times. At Le Mans I had the front runners in my sight, it’s becoming more interesting.”

Yep, but it wouldn't have helped last year, anyone else remember seeing it, it was HUGE, just getting ready to brake for turn 1.

Maybe they are just there to help with Hoffmans low speed offs ?

didn't notice that, like poor old westys at PI ?

I remember how far he slid/tumbled and an effort to wave he was ok at the end.

I was at Mugello last year but didn't see the crash live, only on a monitor. Couldn't believe he walked away from that one.
