race glass back from spraypainters....

Sun Jul 23, 2006 1:39 pm

After getting around on my ZX6R trackie in striking matt black for 6 months now. I thought i should get serious and tap my spraypainter mate Buddha up for a paint job for my would be race bike to show case his talents in future.

The deal was done and Buddha agreed to paint my tank and race glass in the two weeks leading up to my next trackday.

The glass and tank were ready late last week and Buddha had done a stunning job, applying a paint called harlequin snake skin to the surfaces. I was somewhat surprised at his choice of paint and reminded him that i was going to fall off it sooner or later, he shrugged and said "its not hard to patch up." the next day Lisa and i loaded up our bikes to attend a track day at MP.

And then 3 laps into session two i tucked the front trying to avoid a collision with a slower rider who had wobbled onto a piece of pavement i was about to occupy.

I called Buddha when i got home, he laughed and told me his new apprentice wanted to learn how to repair fiberglass and now was as good a time as any.

Bugger Varden! If it's only cosmetic damage.....hey it's a trackie after all. How is the rest of the bike(bars/levers/footpegs etc) ?

Ummmmm.....damage....aside from repaint.

All race glass was damaged, top and ducktail will need some major repairs.

Front screen shattered.
Intake duct in 3 pieces.
Front brake fluid reseviour torn off and missing.
Right clip on busted off behind throttle.
Front brake lever bent beyond use.
Right peg bracket broken.
Rear foot brake bent.

Helmet destined for the bin.

Split the zipper off my jacket.

Lots and lots of new scrapes on everything else.

Bruised left shoulder and ribs.

Not a bad effort really

I have some parts at home to draw on so as soon as my shoulder heals up I'll put bike back together!

Almost seems a shame to paint white racing number boards on it.

Almost......

Good luck with the repairs, as always if you need anything just call.
