Couldn't help myself again (warning its not a kwaka)

Postby robracer » Sat Jul 10, 2010 9:55 pm

Could not bring myself to putting the road bike on the track for the odd track day so I went looking for a budget track bike & as usual my old mate Dave at motorcycle disposals came through with a bargain in the form of an 2002 SV650s with minor cosmetic damage picked up for a song.
Before I get flamed because this is not a Kwaka, I raced a 2000 model SV for 3 years so I know how they handle & what mods to do to make em go & at the end of the day It means I can still do the occasional track day without risking the 636 road bike. When we raced these they shat all over the hornets & buells & were totally kick ass in the twins class & are a heap of fun. The 2002 model is not restricted like the later models so are perfect for the track.

The budget allowed for minimal goodies mainly essentials like rearsets, pipe & fairing with the latter being optional as these are a naked bike to begin with.
Thanks to Pete at Kaneg we managed to pair up some rearsets for a ZX12R which turn out to be a perfect fit on the SV, I scored a Laser pipe off an VTR but being the LHS the pipe its upside down & after removing the end cap I discovered the internals are welded so stuff it .......for 100 bucks I am not going to complain its functional until I can afford a proper can or it grows on me, It was easy to fit with only a link to be fabricated between the original header & the can. There have never been any moulds made for SV's in Aus so I had to look for a substitute I tracked down some suitable race glass in the form of a fairing from a K4 GSXR 600 / 750 & the tail is from a ZX6R & both required extensive bracket fabrication & cutting to fit but it was worth the effort. Fairings are available from the states but the freight was going to be minimum $400 US & like I said this is a budget bike.
I am still working on her but the basics are finished & within a couple of weeks should be complete.
Tank will be getting some techspec tank grips from Mark (triway) so I will mount those first before finishing the graphics, for now she looks a bit plain & being another home painted job its not perfect but has come up pretty good.... for a Suzuki that thinks its a Kawasaki
