Hi! I am new and just bought a bike!

Postby vivek67 » Thu Feb 03, 2011 7:21 pm

Hi all,

I just purchased my first bike (since I moved to Australia 4 years ago). Its a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 250R special edition. I will post pictures after I pick it up tomorrow!

A bit of background.

I migrated from India, and basically grew up riding bikes and scooters of all sorts. The 'biggest' bike I ever rode in India was a 250cc. I love riding because I grew up riding. Since moving to Australia I've always wanted to own a bike but always had a car. I have a 2007 Honda Civic sedan as my secondary (or primary, depends on how my bike experience goes) transport.

I bought a 250cc because I am very comfortable with a light weight, easy to use bike (not saying 600cc and above aren't). I see it as very much a functional bike, want to ride to work in and around the city. And obviously on the weekend, I look forward to some riding and socialising.

Lastly, I am a 26 year old male, work for a management consulting firm based in and around the city.

I look forward to some insights from all you experienced riders. Please share your first days with your first bike purchase.

PS - I am based in Melbourne (Northern suburbs). Looking for some riding company and hopefully some beginners like myself!

Vivek

:) I am still very nervous. I know driving a car here is a breeze. I've been driving in Aus for 3 years now and its super easy.

Bikes, now people tell me its a good way to get killed here because of riding speeds and car population etc. I can see how it makes sense, but I want to ride because I know I will love it. I am a safe driver, Rating 1 for life on my car and dont fancy riding at insane speeds or on the hills. I think I can take reasonable measures to be safe. What say?

Hi and welcome..
I would have thought learning to ride in the hills would improve your skills and that would constitute taking reasonable measures to be safe? ...besides where's the fun in riding in straight lines? :?
It all comes down to how you ride it.....

Welcome mate, when ya get up to speed on the bike, we can scoot away for a few days and I'll take you up to Sydney via the snowies. That'll open your eyes. We might even duck up n see Phil for some Juicy Cutlets! :D

Hi Tim,

I found KSRC just randomly while I was searching for some information on Kwaka 250R. I thought it would be a good idea to join since I now own a bike myself :D

I migrated to Australia about 4 years ago now tim, and things have changed rapidly in India through this time. When I left in 2006 there weren't any bikes bigger than 225-250CC. Recently though, I am being told that Kawasaki has entered the market and so has Yamaha. People are now able to buy 600cc bikes through dealerships which wasn't the case previously. Prior to this, people had to specifically import bikes from overseas. Good to know that now its just like any other first world nation.

I picked up my bike yesterday and rode about 70 kms! It was the most satisfying experience I've had in a long time. It was raining and pouring down in Melbourne but through genuine respect for the weather, tram tracks and my machine, I was able to cruise around and return home unscathed!

Ha ha, I almost found that offensive but I realize a lot of 'my people' have flooded the cab driving market. I work for the largest multinational Management Consulting firm, here in Melbourne. Very satisfied with that and dont intend on driving cabs!

Don't ever be offended by what's said in here Vivek. If we are not taking the piss out of you, then that means we DON'T like you. If we are taking the piss, it's a good sign. Don't forget you are more than welcome to take the piss out of the stereotypical Aussie Bogan. We do and we are Aussies. So if that type of racial spoof upsets you, you won't last long in here and certainly will never be introduced to the Juiciest cutlets in the world followed by a few rounds of Thumbs up! :kuda:
