Hi all - I'm adding to Adelaide's (huge) rider population!

welcome.

Only place i know for auctions is http://pickles.com.au/servlet/Auction/A ... y=Adelaide
being economic write offs. But you'd want to get on the road quicker then that.

Hello and welcome - pretty friendly bunch of people here with loads of advice. I'm fairly new here too, one day soon I won't be a newbie anymore but the-kid tells me I got to get naked first...he's obviously not met me or he'd never make such a request - as a matter of fact he'd pay me to keep them on but let's not tell him that just yet.

Hey welcome aboard!

You sound like you are in the same boat as me - I was going to get a ZX2R but I decided that my learners bike didn't need to be so good so I ended up with an early ZZR250, I'll move up to something bigger and better once I get a handle on the lil' ZZR.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys :)

See that's the thing - I'm really indecisive about whether to go out and buy a brand new ZX2R as it will look good and go well enough for what I need. I don't know how quickly I'll grow out of it but I can only assume it would be really great on petrol (and this is the reason I'm buying a bike, mainly).. The bike will be financed, most probably, so I'm not sure if I'll out-grow it within the next few years and want to trade up.

What are peoples' opinions? The thing is, I have full leathers on lay-by and it would look kinda dumb wearing those whilst riding a postie bike :) From what I've read and been told all over the place, the ZX2R is the quickest 4-stroke 250 out there - this should do me for a while whilst I'm learning the basics, shouldn't it? I'd really want to master it before moving onto something bigger. It's taken me 3 years to move from a 4cyl TP magna to a supercharged 5L VN SS and I feel confident because I was taking baby steps in between. I want to do the same thing with bikes (which kinda justifies a brand new ZX2R), but I don't want to be stuck in the finance-payout trap when I want to upgrade to a new bike.

One other concern which is a big one for me is that if I'm buying 2nd hand, I am often very afraid of what damage the previous owner has caused the bike... it's bad enough in cars but I'd want a perfect specimen (or as close as possible to one) in a bike purely because I know less about them and I don't want to rack up any huge repair costs.

Let me know what you think, people :)

Personal opinion, I wouldn't buy a "new" grey import, going second hand is fairly saf if you are patient and you could ask the friendly guys here in Adelaide to go check em out with ya.

Bikes can be different to cars....not many people wanna hang on to a 2fiddy when they can move on (here in SA after a year or so), but new or used you are gunna be in the same boat.

i wouldnt buy a new 250 at all grey import or not

waste of money!

used 250's hold their value just as much and you're pretty much garanteed to come off learning - why buy a new one if you know you're going to come off and break it :P

I agree with Duane - you will lose too much value if you buy a new one, believe me once you learn to ride it (and it won't take 3 years), then you will be far better off having learnt to ride on a 2nd-hand 250 (ZZR250 is a good bet), and only losing a bit of money when you sell it.

Don't worry too much about prior damage, these things are Kawasaki's mate, they can take an absolute thrashing and come back tomorrow for more....do check for bent frames though on a 2nd handie.

cheers 8)

the kid's memory runs short - my question was when do I stop being a newbie? and the kid said after the first saturday night when you wake up and wonder where your clothes are...

If that doesn't mean naked I'm Mother Theresa

Hahahahah this is funny.

You are an absolute bastard Mr Kid. Shame, shame, shame.

This is no way to treat our new guests, I think the Admins need to take some disciplinary action here.

You chauvinistic pig.
